Sustainability
in Practice: corporate and Community Perspectives
|
|
Sustainability is the latest buzz word associated
with staying viable in tough economic times. But what does it
really mean to be sustainable? Far too often, sustainability
is solely aligned with being "green" or
"environmentally friendly." However, being
"green" is just one component of sustainability. In a
growing number of business and civic circles, the concept of
sustainability is being translated into what's called triple-bottom
line accounting-a framework for measuring business performance that
captures the environmental, social, and economic impacts of
actions.
Find out why investors, managers, directors, and
consumers are now viewing sustainability as a critical factor for
success.
Sustainability professionals representing the
global, regional, and local marketplaces will address:
|
- Defining sustainability
- Recent trends (including an overview of the new LEED
for neighborhood development standards from the U.S. Green Building
Council)
- Case studies
- Resources
|
|
This presentation will be moderated with an
introductory presentation by:
|
- Miriam Lev-on, Executive Director, The LEVON Group, LLC
|
|
Presenters will include:
|
- Court Gould, Executive Director, & Ginette Walker Vinski,
Communications Manager, Sustainable Pittsburgh
- Dara Zycherman, LEED® AP, LEED for Neighborhood Development Program
Manager, U.S. Green Building Council
- Dianne Bossart, Education Manager, Green Building
Alliance
- Michele Buckler, P.E., Senior Environmental
Engineer, Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber
|
The core purpose of A&WMA is to improve
environmental knowledge and decisions by providing a neutral forum
for exchanging information.
